Zigbee Based Electric Meter Reading System

Presenting the remote wireless electric meter reading system this aims at resolving the shortcomings of the technology of the traditional electric meter reading combining the characteristics of the zigbee technology and ieee802 15 4 standard.

An amr system based on cc2420 is designed. Gsm based automatic meter reading system is a succor. Base station is composed of a computer with zigbee module. The smart meter based on zigbee is not limited to just meter reading but it has many applications.

The system is suitable with malaysian environment which was already implemented gsm based amr in lpc. We will take example of zigbee display which works with zigbee smart meter meant to read electricity consumption. In this propose system zigbee module will be attached to the meter by using interface board and the data collector will be connected to. Amr eliminates any possibility of electricity theft.

The hardware implementation was designed and then analyzed the use cases for electric meter. Meter reading is wirelessly transmitted to base station. Abstract a networked wireless amr automatic meter reading system based on wireless sensor networks and zigbee technology is presented in this paper for solving the problems existed in the existing meter reading system. Automatic meter reading amr is the technology of automatically collecting consumption diagnostic and status data from water meter or energy metering devices gas electric and transferring that data to a central database for billing troubleshooting and analyzing.

This technology mainly saves utility providers the expense of periodic trips to each physical location to read a meter.

Consumer node is composed of electric meter arm processor liquid crystal display lcd and a zigbee module operated at 2 4 ghz ism band. The system is a combination of zigbee and gsm technology.
